Solar window films Introduction
Window films are micro thin layers of polyester composed with metalized particles bonded by adhesives and are installed onto interior or exterior glass surfaces to provide significant solar protection.
Window Films screens out heat, block out 99% of the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays, and deflects the uncomfortable glare while allowing glare-controlled sunlight to pass through.
Solar Window film protects from the effects of the sun as well as added safety and security in the events that result in broken glass.
Solar window films History
The concept of window film for use in solar control flat glass application dates back to the early 1960s. The original film design objective was to control the heating and cooling imbalances that result from solar loading. These early films were found to very dark and were not efficient because they did not reflect away the heat and darkened the room.
As the window film concept was developed and improved, a demand developed for solar control films that would complement windows.Tinting of film was achieved through various means to produce colors such as bronze, gray, gold, silver, etc.
Considering today’s escalating energy costs, window film are increasingly valuable as an investment for commercial and residential owners and commercial facility managers.
Window films are considered in the building industry to be “retrofit” products; that is, products to be applied to existing buildings .
Window films are composed of a polyester substrate to which a scratch resistant coating is applied on one side; a mounting adhesive layer and a protective release liner is applied to the other side.
